Work packages

Work package 1: Agile, fast, integrated exploration tools

WP1 will develop the software tools and connect them to the geophysical techniques so that data from the latter can be used to inform the geological modelling with the former. The tools and techniques will be utilised to define the conceptual model-based exploration workflow. The tools and workflow will be tested and iteratively refined using synthetic and real-world data.

WP2 will deploy and refine the software tools, exploration techniques, and conceptual model-based workflow to define generic and site-specific concepts for geothermal resources and exploitation strategies. WP2 will also provide the input for WP3, which relies on the simulated heat production rates as input for the techno-economic assessment.

WP3 will quantify the economic impact of a conceptual model-based exploration workflow that is enabled by the novel software tools and exploration techniques in WP1 and WP2. WP3 considers real-world economic environments that geothermal companies encounter and produces impactful results that maximise the exploitation capabilities for end users.

This WP brings together the results of FindHeat and packages them in tailored training and communication materials that upskill technical experts (geoscientists, engineers, layers, economists) working on geothermal projects, respectively facilitate a trusted two-way communication with non-technical stakeholders (governments, local communities).

WP5 will integrate the individual tools and training and communication materials developed and tested in WP1 to 4 into the user-friendly and open-source FindHeat platform. This modular toolkit will enable knowledge sharing by ensuring that the key FindHeat results can be accessed and utilised straightforwardly by end users. The FindHeat platform will be a web-based graphical user interface that provides a one-stop-shop for the different FindHeat technologies. The platform will have intuitive documentation in form of video tutorials and training data that explain how the different steps of the FindHeat workflow can be executed.

Transparent and open communication is the key to create a dialogue between science, industry, and society that elucidates how novel software tools and geophysical techniques enable fast and cost-effective exploration that increases drilling success across diverse geothermal resources in Europe and beyond. WP6 will provide efficient communication, dissemination, and exploitation between the FindHeat consortium and all relevant stakeholders.

WP7 will develop an effective and comprehensive administrative, financial, technical, and legal management that ensure the successful execution of the project. TUD will lead this WP as the overall coordinator for FindHeat.
